Note: Joshua was actually born in Putnam County, Indiana but spent much of his young years in the Ladoga are before moving to Kansas with his parents and the rest of the family

Joshua Hodges died Jan 30 at 3:30 p.m. at the age of 74 from a complication of diseases.  His demise was hastened by a fall 8 days previous.  He was a veteran of the 12th Kansas Volunteers, served over three years in the Civil War and was a member of the George H. Thomas Post GAR.  He had resided in Kansas since 1857 and was married in 1872, living ever since on the farm 3 miles north of Ottawa.  Eight children survive.  They are: Mrs. Emma Baker; Frank; Anna; Clara; Lizzie; Mamie; Homer and Esther Hodges.  All were with their father before his death.  The funeral took place Jan 31 interment in Highland, the GAR in charge.

There were beautiful floral offerings from friends and a wreath from the Ladies’ Circle. – kbz
